The CLA Art Fair is one of the CLA Student Board’s longest running events, giving talented students the opportunity to display their artistic ability to the University of Minnesota. Every year more than 100 entries are submitted to compete for cash prizes.

Fellow students will be able to choose which piece they like the best within different categories of Art. The categories include 2D (things like drawings and paintings), 3D (which includes ceramics and sculptures), and reproducibles (photographs or things that can be reproduced). We will also have the Dean of CLA, a representative from the Weisman Art Museum and local professional artists come to decide their favorite piece and hand out awards.

The event will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday, Nov. 30 beginning at 9 a.m. An awards ceremony to honor winners will begin at 2 p.m. and this will conclude the event.

This year, we are looking for any acoustic and/or Acapella groups that would be interested in entertaining the guests and artists at the Art Fair. We will be holding auditions on November 2 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Coffman 301!

If you are interested in submitting your work into the 2011 CLA Art Fair, or auditioning to be the entertainment, or if you have any questions please contact either Heather Meyer (meye1476@umn.edu) or Hannah Erickson (eric2750@umn.edu).

The CLA Student Board hosted our second Meet Greet and Eat with Dean Parente of the semester on Wednesday November 3rd, int he brand new STSS building on East Bank. Our Meet Greet and Eat events are designed to give every CLA student the opportunity to have their voice heard, while enjoying FREE MESA PIZZA. CLA Student Board members are there to hear about what issues you think exist in the college. We take these concerns very seriously and at least once a semester, meet with the Dean to relay that message to him. We rely on student input for determining which issues are worth pursuing with Dean Parente.

We were fortunate to have Dean Parente join us in person for the Meet Greet and eat last week. He took questions from the audience on a variety of CLA topics important to students. The CLA Student Board was there to facilitate the questions and to help provide feedback.

Look back here in the next few weeks for information on one final Meet Greet and Eat for first semester.
